Shopper:Lab™ is just one of Blue Yonder Research’s innovative research tools and is leading the way in the evolution of shopper based product development; ideal for testing New Pack Designs of Fast Moving Consumable Goods, this facility is designed to understand at-shelf behaviour in a realistic shopper environment. The consumers are led into the Shopper:Lab™ where time is taken to ensure they are comfortable with the setting; they can be then taken to the designated feature shelves where clients can witness the research via audio-visual link.   • Interact with packaging.

  • Conceive ‘affordances’, design features which give clues as to how to use the pack; this is particularly important for designs which require new behaviour on the part of the consumer.

Cameras placed to the side and rear of the feature shelves allow precise observation of each consumer; the rear view provides a time scale showing how long it takes for the pack to be selected, whilst the side view allows the client to see exactly how the pack is handled: this is the perfect tool for understanding the non-verbal communications of the consumers, as verbal communication may be influenced by group dynamic. Clients are able to watch progress in Shopper:Lab™ from the comfort of our Breakout Room; equipped with high-definition screens for a clear view of our feature shelves, and further screens to simultaneously observe other areas of the Lab, this feature is the perfect way to understand consumer conduct and witness their experiences first-hand.

With interview rooms adjacent to the Shopper:Lab™, we can immediately explore consumer behaviour and motivations, as stimulated by actual audio-visual footage of their at-shelf behavior; the client can study each interview from one of our viewing rooms, offering the advantage of non-intimidating client presence. Sessions will be recorded by our audio-visual technician, and the recordings edited to your specifications.

Shopper:Lab™ also provides the perfect space in which to present product range reviews, product showcasing and aid with fixture optimization; the flexible shelving of the Lab allows both current and potential layouts to be built, with the option of ‘face to face’ units, to offer a comparison between planograms, or ‘back to back’ shelving, if options are to remain distinct. Moreover, the client can continue their meeting in the Breakout Room, using the cameras to maintain the focus on the products at shelf, whilst delivering their presentation on one of our High Definition screens.
